Sarah Rooney has more than a decade of fund development experience in both small and large organizations serving health care and higher education. Sarah also has experience with creating social enterprises to help diversify funding for organizations. She is passionate about health care and addressing social determinants of health to create health equity. Over the course of her career, she has generated new revenue streams, exceeded her fundraising goals and created strong partnerships to solve complex problems.
Prior to joining Accordant, Sarah was the Philanthropy Director of an inner-city hospital that was part of a large, matrixed health organization in Columbus, Ohio. With her primary focus on major gifts and relationship-based fund development, she was able to raise record-high funding for the hospital. Sarah was also an integral part of creating partnerships with local non-profits to address complex social needs facing the community. She helped spearhead a medical respite for patients experiencing homelessness and helped start a food pharmacy to assist patients experiencing food insecurity. Prior to her work in health care, Sarah worked at a non-profit that helped provide furniture to families who were coming out of the shelter system or homelessness.
Sarah thrives on solving problems creatively and diligently. Her strong belief in relationship-based philanthropy fuels her passion to help organizations establish this approach as the foundation of all they do. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Franklin University.
